About the Department

The Economics and Business Administration Department at Ashesi University is committed to developing ethically grounded, entrepreneurial business and policy leaders. Our approach blends theory with practical experience, preparing students to excel in the African business environment and beyond. The Department runs two undergraduate programmes: BSc Business Administration and BSc Economics. It will soon launch its first graduate programme, MBA. The  EBA Department invites applications for a Full or Associate Professor role in Finance. We seek candidates with a proven record of publications in reputable and high-impact journals and a demonstrated ability to lead research projects and contribute significantly to the Ashesi community.

About the Role

The Professor of Finance will be responsible for delivering engaging, research-informed teaching and conducting cutting-edge research in finance. This role requires expertise in financial theory and practice, focusing on corporate finance, financial markets, investment analysis, and risk management. The professor will also mentor students and contribute to the institution's mission of academic excellence.

Contract Type: Full-Time Academic

Key Responsibilities

  1. Teaching and Curriculum Development:
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in finance.
  • Develop course syllabi and materials that reflect the latest financial tools, trends, and theoretical models.
  • Use technology, case studies, and financial simulations to enhance the learning experience.
  • Develop and administer assessments, exams, and evaluations to gauge students' understanding and progress, providing constructive feedback to promote continuous improvement
  • Maintain a record of the progression, examination, and assessment of enrolled students. 
  1. Research and Scholarship:
  • Conduct high-quality research leading to publications in reputable academic journals.
  • Seek research funding opportunities and manage research projects.
  • Supervise student research projects, theses and capstones at the undergraduate and graduate level. 
  1. Industry Engagement:
  • Collaborate with industry partners to ensure the curriculum remains relevant to industry practices.
  • Lead initiatives such as guest lectures, workshops, and networking opportunities with professional institutions. 
  1. Department-related Activities:
  • Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum planning, and other departmental activities.
  • Contribute to the development of finance-related initiatives within the department.

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • Full/Associate Professor in Finance.
  • PhD in Finance or in a field directly related to Finance.
  • Strong publication record.
  • Able to obtain and manage external grants and funding.
  • Active engagements with relevant professional bodies.
  • Proven record of teaching in higher education.

  • A description of your vision of research and research support for faculty and students
  • Copies of three published research articles in top-tier finance journals
  • Evidence of external grant (at least 1) sourced within the past 5 years
  • Research Statement, Teaching Philosophy and Teaching Statement
  • Tentative Research Program for finance faculty and students interested in finance.
