The Power Electronics (PE) Group at the University of Twente conducts research and education on advanced power electronic systems and technologies. Our research spans the complete power conversion chain, from power semiconductor devices, converter topologies, modulation and control, magnetics and electromagnetic compatibility, to the design, prototyping, and experimental validation of complete power electronic systems.
Our research addresses both fundamental and application-oriented challenges in areas such as high-efficiency and high-power-density power conversion, wide-bandgap semiconductor technologies (SiC and GaN), advanced and intelligent control, artificial intelligence and machine learning for power electronics, digital twins, condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. Important application domains include renewable energy and energy storage, electrified transportation, battery systems, DC power distribution and protection, aerospace and space power systems, and industrial power electronics.
The PE Group combines strong academic research with extensive experimental activities and maintains state-of-the-art laboratory facilities for the development and validation of power electronic converters and systems. We collaborate closely with leading industrial partners, research institutes, and universities in the Netherlands and internationally, and participate in a broad portfolio of national and European research projects.
You will join a large and growing international research environment involving academic staff, postdoctoral researchers, PhD candidates, and MSc students. The group offers opportunities to develop an independent research line, supervise talented researchers and students, contribute to high-quality education, and establish new collaborations with academic and industrial partners.
Our ambition is to contribute to the development of the next generation of efficient, reliable, resilient, and intelligent power electronic systems needed for the energy transition and the increasing electrification of society.
The faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) uses mathematics, electronics and computer technology to contribute to the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). With ICT present in almost every device and product we use nowadays, we embrace our role as contributors to a broad range of societal activities and as pioneers of tomorrow's digital society. As part of a tech university that aims to shape society, individuals and connections, our faculty works together intensively with industrial partners and researchers in the Netherlands and abroad, and conducts extensive research for external commissioning parties and funders. Our research has a high profile both in the Netherlands and internationally. It has been accommodated in three multidisciplinary UT research institutes: Mesa+ Institute, TechMed Centre and Digital Society Institute.
