About us

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

SnT carries out interdisciplinary research in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) systems and services, often in collaboration with governmental, industrial and international partners. SnT is active in several national projects funded by the National Research Fund (FNR) and local industries, and international research projects funded by the EU FP7 program, H2020 program and the European Space Agency (ESA). The successful candidate will become a member of the SnT within the Systems and Network Security Group (SNS) Team under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Vincent LENDERS, Full Professor and FNR PEARL Chair at the University of Luxembourg.

Your role

  • Support further developing and expanding the SNS team, its research, and role in shaping interdisciplinary research, in crypto and quantum security
  • Shape and supervise research direction at the intersection of information assurance, privacy, post-quantum cryptography, quantum communication and quantum cryptography
  • Lead and contribute to the development and management of national and international projects in SNS, including proposal preparation, reporting, and coordination with external partners
  • Foster collaborations across disciplines - in particular between computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering and physics - with private and public stakeholders in Luxembourg and abroad
  • Contribute to teaching activities at the Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD levels in topics such as information assurance, privacy, crypto, and quantum security
  • Provide daily and content supervision of PhD candidates and support doctoral and postdoctoral training; e.g., research seminars, reading groups, workshops, and conferences
  • Represent SnT and SNS in academic and public venues, strengthening the visibility of cybersecurity research in Luxembourg and abroad
  • Participate in Working Groups aiming to develop and discuss Cybersecurity topics and their influence in society, in support of Human Skills in Cybersecurity, and Inclusion and Diversity

Your profile

  • A PhD in Physics, Mathematics, or a closely related field
  • A researcher with high standards in research ethics and scientific rigor, committed to scientific integrity, free speech, critical thinking, and open inquiry
  • At least 10 years of postdoctoral or equivalent experience in crypto and quantum security
  • A strong publication record in crypto and quantum security venues
  • Demonstrated expertise in mathematical and quantum physics research methods
  • Proven experience in funding acquisition, project management, and coordination of national and international, and EU projects
  • Proven experience in teaching and supervising MSc students and PhD students, and in leadership in steering their research
  • Proven integrity and capacity to handle sensitive or dual-use research responsibly, respecting confidentiality and ethical principles
  • Active engagement in the research community; e.g., programme committees, invited talks, workshop organisation, and commitment to open, collaborative science
  • Experience with tools for qualitative and quantitative analysis; experience and practice with machine learning and Artificial Intelligence are also considered assets

Language requirements:
