About us

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg.
We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine - in the lab, in the clinic and
in silico. We focus on neurodegenerative processes and are especially interested in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and their contributing factors. The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines: computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, engineers, physicists and clinicians from more than 50 countries currently work at the LCSB. We excel because we are truly interdisciplinary, and together we contribute to science and society.

Your role

The selected candidate will develop a computational platform to identify hierarchical combinations of cell fate conversion factors, which in turn will be used to engineer highly specialized neuronal cellular subtypes for cell transplantation therapies. To achieve this goal, the candidate will combine a gene network-based approach with a machine learning model (foundational model) to propose protocols of sequential induction of transcription factors to generate desired cell subtypes. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with Prof. Stefan Stricker at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, who will also conduct the experimental validation of the computational predictions.

Your profile

  • Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, biology, or a related discipline,
  • Strong interest in applying quantitative approaches to complex biological and biomedical questions
  • Solid computational skills, including experience in mathematical or network-based modeling, supported by demonstrable work in a relevant research context
  • Strong record of first-author publications in the fields of bioinformatics and/or computational biology
  • Prior experience in mathematical modeling of biological networks
