The Faculty of Information Technology is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantum Information starting 1 November 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter and continuing until 31 December 2028. The fixed-term position is for project work.
Quantum computing is expected to solve some of society’s most difficult problems. However, companies are still taking a wait-and-see approach because the path to practical benefits has not yet been built. The new UnloQ joint project by VTT, the University of Helsinki, and the University of Jyväskylä removes this bottleneck by identifying the most impactful early-stage use cases for industry. The UnloQ research project (Unlocking Quantum Computing Benefits) targets the most significant problems in quantum computing: device noise and sensitivity to disturbance, which complicate the identification of the technology's commercial value. Rather than waiting for hardware to mature, the project builds practical pathways for businesses to adopt quantum computing, developing noise-tolerant methods and industrial pilots.
Applicants should hold a relevant doctoral degree and have a strong track record of high-quality scientific research. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of quantum theory and expertise in quantum information, with research experience related to noise and disturbance in quantum information processing. The selected researcher will play an active role in advancing the objectives of the project.
The selected researcher will join the Quantum Information and Computation team, led by Prof. Teiko Heinosaari. The QIC team conducts internationally recognized research in quantum technology, and it offers a collaborative environment where new ideas are encouraged. Challenging problems are tackled together.
The duties, qualification requirements, and language skills of a postdoctoral researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. The PhD degree required for the position must have been completed before the starting date. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.

Salaries are based on job demands and employees’ performance following the Finnish University Salary System. The salary for a Postdoctoral Researcher is determined based on the task-specific demand level 5 for teaching and research staff. The salary range will be approximately 4000-4400 €/month (gross income), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. A holiday bonus is paid to all employees. If you are relocating from abroad, we will support your move to Jyväskylä and Finland.
