The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology conducts high-quality research and education in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences. Our research and education focuses on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and in the environment. We are responsible for postgraduate education in the subject area Natural Sciences with a focus on chemistry, biophysics, biology and educational science. In addition, the department hosts educational programs in molecular biology, genomics and systems biology, chemistry, organic chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry, as well as prescription education. The department is an international environment with interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education and contributes strongly to the University of Gothenburg's top ranking in life science. We are located in central premises at Natrium, Medicinareberget , Gothenburg.

Johanna Höög’s research group focuses on electron microscopy and tomography after cryopreparation of cells. Our research is interdisciplinary between the medical, cellular and structural biology fields.

Duties 

The successful applicant will cultivate yeast and cancer cells. The researcher will design and conduct experiments investigating nuclear envelope budding in both yeast models and cancer cells using both light and electron microscopy. The successful candidate will also investigate nuclear envelope budding in different tissues. The work will be conducted in English.

Qualifications 

The applicant should have a PhD in the field of biological sciences. The ideal candidate should also have a strong background in yeast research, cell culture, and expertise in molecular and cell biology. The applicant must have conducted productive research in relevant disciplines, and some experience with modern electron microscopy (cryopreservation of cells) is required. Good work and social skills are important. Excellent English language skills, both spoken and written, are a requirement.

Experience with yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) as a model system is highly desirable. Additionally, prior experience in cancer research is sought after. 

Employment 

Fixed term during two years full time (100%) at the Department of Chemistry and MolecularBiology.
