Imec-Visionlab within the Department of Physics is looking for a Doctoral Candidate in the field of dynamic phase contrast imaging and reconstruction (f/m). This position is part of an FWO fundamental research project, which aims to boost the development of dynamic imaging techniques for time-resolved phase contrast tomography through the development of novel imaging strategies and image reconstruction methods.

Position

  • You will work actively on the preparation of a PhD thesis in the field of dynamic phase contrast imaging and reconstruction.
  • You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
  • You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for imec-Visionlab.
  • The starting date is preferably between June and September 2026.

Profile

  • You hold a Master degree іn Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or related studies, or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
  • You can demonstrate excellent study results.
  • You are proficient in at least one programming language (e.g., python, c++, ...)
  • Strong communication skills in English are essential.
  • Knowledge of inverse problems, computational imaging, image reconstruction, or deep learning is a plus.
  • You possess above all a curious, positive mindset and perseverance

What we offer

  • We offer a fully funded doctoral scholarship for a period of two years. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed for another two years.
  • Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders.
  • You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
  • As a doctoral researcher, you will have access to a wide and varied range of courses and an educational credit through the Antwerp Doctoral School.
  • You will join a multidisciplinary, international team of experts, and cooperate with strong academic research groups and industrial partners.
  • You will have access to a world-class research environment with state-of-the-art X-ray phase contrast instrumentation and computing infrastructure.
