Your Responsibilities

  • Meeting the objectives in teaching, research and administration in accordance with the development agreement to be concluded
  • Independent teaching of courses with a focus on "Modern German Literature" for an average of 8 semester hours per week as well as collaboration in teaching and examination tasks of the department
  • Academic and organizational supervision of students, particularly with regard to theses in the Bachelor's and Master's programs (German Studies and German as a teaching subject)
  • Participation in the conception of new university teaching methods and courses
  • Conducting independent research and publishing in the area of German-language literature from the 18th to the 21st century, with a particular emphasis on Austrian literature and a focus on aesthetics and poetics, literature and mediality, and literature and space. Active involvement in one of the two core research areas of the Faculty of Humanities (“Perception: Episteme, Aesthetics, Politics” or “Trans-Mediterranean Entanglements”) is required
  • Participation in the application for third-party funded projects
  • Active engagement and participation in organizational and administrative tasks, as well as in evaluation measures at the Department of German Studies

Your Profile

  • Excellent doctoral or PhD degree in the field of modern German-language literature
  • Extensive university-level teaching experience, including online instruction, and demonstrated pedagogical competence
  • Excellent scholarly expertise in German-language literature from the 18th to the 21st century, with a specialization in Austrian literature and particular attention to aesthetics and poetics, literature and mediality, and literature and space.
  • International publication and lecture activity in the relevant field
  • Extensive international research experience and excellent global professional connections
  • Proven experience in and willingness to participate in the acquisition of third-party funded projects (e.g., FWF, ÖAW, ÖNB, DFG, SNF, EU)
  • Excellent written and spoken German and English skills
  • Strong teamwork and organisational skills
  • Social and communication skills
  • A self-reliant and responsible approach to work

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 70.200,20 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.
