Your Responsibilities

  • Teaching research-based language, culture, and translation/interpreting courses, specifically for Austrian Sign Language (ÖGS), amounting to 9 semester hours per week
  • Participation in associated administrative and assessment duties incl. subject-specific examinations
  • Contribution to the development of teaching materials for language and translation/interpreting courses in ÖGS
  • Supporting students in planning their Master's theses in the field of ÖGS
  • Organizing internships, liaising with non-university institutions/external partners, and engaging in public outreach activities
  • Participation in the institute’s research activities and projects in relevant areas and the opportunity to conduct your own research
  • Assisting the departmental coordinator for ÖGS (deputy role)

Your Profile

  • Completed university degree (Diploma or Master’s), preferably in translation studies or an equivalent academic qualification.
  • Extensive, relevant professional experience in Austrian Sign Language translation and interpreting in a variety of settings
  • Proven teaching experience in the field of translation and interpreting
  • Familiarity with fundamental translation studies theories and recent research in sign language translation and interpreting
  • Excellent linguistic and cultural competence in German (native speaker level) and ÖGS, as well as excellent knowledge of the linguistic structure of ÖGS
  • Ability to engage in critical academic reflection
  • High level of sensitivity in engagement with the Deaf community
  • Very good digital skills and experience with relevant IT and video technologies
  • Interest in collaboration with institutions and organisations which offer language, translation and/or interpreting internships with Austrian Sign Language
  • Membership in the Austrian Sign Language Interpreters’ Association (ÖGSDV) (desirable)
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 52.865,40 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.
