Expected start: July 2025.The post is provisionally fixed term for six years and will be converted into a permanent associate professorship subject to positive tenure evaluation according to a standardized process (tenure track with qualification agreement). The tenure-track position is affiliated with the Institute for Microelectronics. Duties include research and teaching in the field of computational modelling and simulation in nanoelectronics, with a specialization in ab-initio and multiscale modelling. The focus of research should be on:

  • Quantum-mechanical modelling of defects in semiconductor devices
  • Development and implementation of computational models for device simulation (including compact models and models for technology computer-aided design (TCAD) applications)
  • Investigation of reliability aspects in silicon and 2D technologies
  • Atomistic modelling of processes using molecular dynamics simulations
  • Multiscale simulation of quantum transport in nanoelectronic devices

Tasks:

Research:

  • Quantum-mechanical defect and reliability modeling for nanoelectronic devices based on density functional theory and related quantum-mechanical methods
  • Development of atomistic process models using molecular dynamics and machine-learned potentials for the virtual optimization of oxidation, thin film deposition, and other fabrication steps
  • Ballistic and diffusive transport modeling in nanoelectronic devices based on atomistic models and Monte Carlo algorithms
  • Development and validation of TCAD and compact models from atomistic simulation results within a multiscale workflow to address practical challenges in the semiconductor industry

Teaching:

  • The tenure track position is intended to cover the theoretical foundations of electrodynamics within the Bachelor's program in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. It is emphasized that currently, the teaching in the Bachelor's curriculum is in the German language, requiring excellent language skills
