The Unit of Information and Knowledge Management in the Faculty of Management and Business was established in 2001. The unit operates in the broad field of information and knowledge management, ranging from information technology and business to people, organisations and society.The unit currently has eight professors and approximately 45 staff members who conduct research, teach and create societal impact in many ways. 

We are now seeking a new Senior Research Fellow to strengthen high-quality research and teaching, contribute to the acquisition of competitive research funding, and foster national and international research collaboration.

The unit’s research activities are organized around three strategic focus areas that generate new knowledge and value, often through multidisciplinary research activities. The first focus area, knowledge-based management, includes classical knowledge management, intellectual capital, and business and data analytics, complemented by a perspective on data-driven decision-making. The second area, management of information systems, covers various topics related to information systems, from their management and use to their implementation, deployment and impacts, as well as details related to IT governance. The third area, management of digital business, addresses the digitalization of processes and services, the development and utilization of business models, the data economy, ecosystems, various business support platforms and platform technologies. Depending on the applicant’s profile, the open position may be located in any of these three focus areas. 

Job description 

A Senior Research Fellow in information and knowledge management conducts high-quality research and provides teaching in the field of information and knowledge management. The Senior Research Fellow conducts independent research on internationally and nationally relevant themes in information and knowledge management, plans research projects, actively participates in applying for research funding and leading projects, and contributes to other university activities, societal interaction in the field and international collaboration. The Senior Research Fellow will also supervise theses of degree students and participate in the supervision of doctoral students. 

Requirements 

  • an applicable doctoral degree 
  • evidence of high-quality independent scientific research 
  • strong evidence of acquiring external research funding 
  • strong and versatile evidence of research collaboration  
  • evidence of high-level, high-quality research-based teaching and supervision in some of the above-mentioned three strategic focus areas of the unit of Information and knowledge management 
  • good command of English 

University pedagogical studies and other pedagogical merits and experience will also be taken into account. Skills of Finnish language is considered as an advantage. 

The selected person is expected to acquire external research funding to cover at least 35% of the salary costs related to the position. 

The selection process may include different forms of interviews, aptitude assessments and teaching skills assessments. 

We offer 

The position is fixed-term and its duration is four years.  A six-month trial period applies to all new employees at Tampere University.  The starting date is negotiable and will be agreed upon with the selected candidate.

The salary will be based on the salary system for teaching and research staff at Finnish universities. The preliminary requirement level for the University Researcher position is 6–7. In addition, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid. The starting salary (level 6) is approximately EUR 4,700-4,900 per month.
