Duties: 

  • Undergraduate teaching in the theoretical programme.
  • Coordinating a programme.
  • Postgraduate supervision.
  • Research and publication.
  • Participating in their own and departmental social impact activities.
  • Administrative tasks associated with the mentioned duties. 

Requirements: 

  • PhD in social work.
  • Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions.
  • Experience of postgraduate supervision on M and PhD level.
  • Proof of research and accredited publications (professor: 25; associate professor: 17; senior lecturer: seven research outputs) and conference presentations.
  • Professionally proficient in English, and willingness to function in a multilingual environment.
  • Relevant practice experience. 

Recommendations:

  • Knowledge of the BSW Standards of the Social Work Curriculum in South Africa as stipulated by the CHE.
  • Experience of supervising undergraduate students in a social work practice education programme.
  • Knowledge and experience of online teaching and learning platforms.
  • Experience of independent research.
  • Strong leadership and teamwork capabilities.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • NRF rating.

  • A 1-2-page cover letter where the candidate discusses their experience, research and teaching plans, and potential contribution to the Department of Social Work at Stellenbosch University.
