We are looking for a research scientist interested in virtual nature tourism services and their development.

The researcher will explore the productization and business potential of virtual nature experiences and trips within the context of sustainable tourism. The successful candidate will take part in the design and development of virtual nature-based tourism concepts and will be responsible for piloting these concepts with different target groups in the Virtual Nature Laboratory of Natural Resources Institute Finland’s (Luke).

The role includes analyzing the outcomes of the pilot study, conducting scientific reporting, and publishing the results in international peer-reviewed journals. The researcher will also engage in stakeholder collaboration and contribute to the development of potential business models within the research project. In addition, the role involves preparing project reports required by the project funder.

This position is part of the international EU-funded innovation project VENRE – One-stop-shop for Circular Solutions for Sustainable Tourism (2024–2027).

Our expectations of the applicant

The applicant is familiar with the research related to sustainable nature-based tourism and the health benefits of nature. They have knowledge of the practical application of digital recreational and nature tourism services, or they are interested in the development of such services. Suitable educational backgrounds include a Master's or Doctoral degree in (nature-based) tourism, environmental psychology, or another relevant field.
The applicant has excellent or good proficiency in English. Finnish language skills will be considered an advantage. The candidate is self-motivated and has good communication skills. They have experience in writing and publishing scientific articles. Knowledge of business models in nature-based tourism and proficiency in statistical analysis are considered assets.
