Job description

School of Social Sciences and Humanities

Full-time and open-ended, with Hybrid working

This role is being recruited to either a Lecturer (grade 7 from £47,389 to £56,535 per annum) or Senior Lecturer (grade 8 from £59,966 - £67,468 per annum) in Philosophy - APPLICANTS ARE ASKED TO MAKE IT CLEAR WHICH POST THEY ARE APPLY FOR IN THEIR SUPPORTING STATEMENT.

Join us and be part of a vibrant community at Loughborough University.

Here’s more about the role and what we’re looking for:

The Department of International Relations, Politics and History (IRPH) at Loughborough University is looking to appoint a high calibre individual to diversify and strengthen the team delivering Philosophy on its popular Politics, Philosophy and Economics BA (Hons). An ability to teach and supervise across politics, philosophy and economics would therefore be helpful.

While we welcome applications from all philosophers, we are particularly keen to appoint someone who can strengthen and expand our vibrant PPE community, especially applicants whose research and teaching interests address the intersections of politics, philosophy, and economics.

This might include, but is not limited to:

  • applicants with research and teaching interests in the philosophy of science (including, among others, the philosophy of social science and the philosophy of economics)
  • analytical moral, legal, and/or political philosophy (including approaches drawing upon non-western traditions)
  • philosophy informed by experimental or quantitative methods; or epistemology and the philosophy of language, especially approaches to epistemology and the philosophy of language addressing areas of political significance.

A willingness to teach introductory philosophy, including the history of philosophy, will be an advantage.

The Department of IRPH is a high-performing department within the University, the higher education sector and internationally, undertaking outstanding and impact-generating research; offering a transformative education and student experience, equipping students for diverse career destinations; and supporting staff to thrive in their careers. It is committed to critical education; being a cohesive, supportive community for both staff and students; diversity and inclusion; research excellence; making interdisciplinary connections in research and teaching; and working collaboratively to make change in the world.

About You

  • You are authoring high-quality peer-reviewed outputs (e.g. journal articles, monographs)
  • You can demonstrate an ability to perform teaching duties to high standards (including module and VLE design, teaching delivery, assessment and marking, and supervision)
  • You want to join and collaborate within an interdisciplinary team in an inclusive working environment

Why should you Apply?

With huge amount of variety in the role, there is an opportunity for you to develop and continually grow.  Staff from under-represented groups in higher education and the philosophy discipline are particularly encouraged to apply.
