About us:

We investigate how cyanobacteria adjust their metabolism to survive environmental stress. We are particularly interested in the metabolic adaptation that unicellular cyanobacteria undergo under nutrient limitation. We use physiological, biochemical, and molecular approaches to investigate the regulatory mechanisms that control this metabolic adaptation. The position is part of the Emmy Noether project “Metabolic foundation of developmental transitions” led by Sofía Doello.

We are looking for you:

PhD Candidate in Molecular Biology of Cyanobacteria (m/f/x)

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on the metabolic regulation of the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6308: creation and physiological characterization of mutant strains, enzyme purification and characterization, analysis of Whole Genome Sequencing data
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present them at inter-/national conferences
  • Supervise students at the bachelor and master level.

Your qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related field
  • Previous experience in molecular biology research
  • Excellent English skills
  • Experience with cultivation of cyanobacteria, gene editing, protein purification and/or enzymatic assays will be considered an advantage.
