Tutorial Lecturer for the course Principles of Economics

The Bachelor Programme International Studies offers a temporary Tutorial Lecturer position (0,8FTE) for the course Principles of Economics as of 15 August 2026.

Job description

The candidate will teach tutorials in small work groups for first- or second-year BA students, carrying out detailed lesson plans with specified learning objectives previously designed for the tutorials under the supervision of a tutorial coordinator and in cooperation with their colleagues. The successful candidate will mark and assess student assignments and exams, provide feedback on assignments as well as additional didactic guidance to students in their work groups. 

The candidate will work as a member of the current team of tutorial lecturers, under the supervision of the head of the tutorial lecturer team. 

Tutorials have a didactic as well as a social objective. They provide the opportunity to discuss the subject matter presented during lectures and lecture readings, as well as applying key insights from the lectures in the form of assignments. Additionally, participating in tutorials is aimed at enhancing students’ academic skills. Lastly, tutorials are a space for students and academic staff to meet, get to know each other, and create an atmosphere conducive to the open discussion and exchange of ideas and viewpoints.

Profile of the candidate

  • MA or PhD in the domain of Political Economy and/or Economic History; 
  • Experience in teaching small workgroups/tutorials and/or seminars; 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with academic staff while independently conducting teaching, grading, and related administrative tasks; 
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines; 
  • Ability to effectively teach and carry out teaching related administrative tasks across various courses at the same time; 
  • Good command of English.

Terms and conditions

The appointment is for 30,4 hours per week (0,8 FTE) in temporary employment for one semester, starting 15 August until 15 February. The position corresponds to the position of Docent 4 in the University system of job profiles (UFO). 

The salary will correspond to scale 10 (from € 3546,- to €5538,- gross per month) for a full working week in accordance with the collective salary agreement of the Association of Dutch universities (CAO) and depending on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate is expected to commence employment on 15 August 2026.
