We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join a joint KU Leuven – UCLouvain doctoral programme investigating compartmentalised metabolism in tumour hypoxia, at the interface between nuclear metabolism, chromatin regulation, and single-cell epigenomics in cancer.

The candidate will be co-supervised by Dr. Roxane Verdikt and Prof. Bernard Thienpont (Laboratory for Functional Epigenetics, KU Leuven) and Prof. Guido Bommer (Metabolic Research Group, de Duve Institute, UCLouvain),
with research activities shared between both institutions. KU Leuven (Leuven) and UCLouvain (Brussels) are located approximately
30 minutes apart and offer access to a highly collaborative and internationally recognised biomedical research environment.

Project

The project will combine molecular and cellular biology, metabolic approaches, and functional genomics to study how tumour hypoxia reshapes nuclear metabolic pathways and epigenetic regulation.

Profile

We are looking for candidates with:
  • a Master’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, or bioengineering;
  • hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques;
  • strong scientific curiosity and motivation for fundamental cancer research;
  • excellent communication and organisational skills.
Experience with epigenomics, omics data analysis, cancer models, or metabolic assays is considered an asset.

Offer

The successful candidate will be jointly enrolled at KU Leuven and UCLouvain and will benefit from the complementary expertise, infrastructure, and scientific communities of both institutions.
The position will remain open until filled. Applications should include:
  • a CV,
  • a short motivation letter,
  •  contact information for 2 referees,
  • and, optionally, a brief description of previous research experience or technical expertise relevant to the project.

Interested?

For more information please contact Dr. Roxane Verdikt, mail: [email protected] or Prof. dr. Bernard Thienpont, mail: [email protected].
