The Institute for Insolvency Law (KU Leuven, Belgium) focuses on research and education in insolvency law, the legal aspects of corporate finance, and economic analysis of law.

Project

You will have the chance to conduct research in the broad domain of business law, preferably with a focus on 
  • insolvency law in the broad sense (enforcement, security interests, guarantees, bankruptcy,  reorganisation);
  • legal aspects of corporate finance; or 
  • economic analysis of law. 
Within a four-year period, you are expected to complete a PhD thesis under the supervision of Prof. Joeri Vananroye. The precise topic of the PhD will be determined in consultation with the supervisor. 
Additionally, you will offer limited teaching support in the context of Prof. Vananroye’s courses. The estimated share of educational support duties in the total workload is 10%. 
The concrete starting date can be determined in consultation with the supervisor. 

Profile

  • Master’s degree in law, master’s degree in economics, law and business, or equivalent degree with good to excellent study results
  • An interest in insolvency law and/or the economic analysis of law
  • Ability to integrate into the existing research group and educational team, and to complete a PhD within four years
  • Good command of English;  good knowledge of Dutch is an asset

Offer

We offer full-time employment for at least one year, renewable according to the following schedule upon favourable evaluation:
  • Renewal for one year after the first year
  • Renewal for two years after the second year
for a maximum period of four years total.
