The Alternative Translational Models for Precision Medicine Group focuses on developing and utilizing precision cut tissue slices on chip technology to create more accurate and physiologically relevant models for drug and nanoformulation testing. Our research involves using these models for toxicity screening, therapeutics evaluation, and the detection of diagnostic markers. We also conduct pharmacokinetics studies to better understand drug behavior in a complex, tissue-specific environment. The advertised position will specifically focus on the study of precision cut brain slices to develop drug delivery systems that can effectively cross the blood-brain barrier for the treatment of glioblastoma tumors in animal and patient tissue models. By bridging the gap between preclinical and clinical research, our work aims to enhance the precision and effectiveness of treatments, providing a more personalized approach to medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct 3D tissue culture.
  • Lead studies involving nanomaterial toxicity and theranostic screening, particularly in the context of personalized medicine in glioblastoma tumor models.
  • Perform animal in vivo studies and develop advanced 3D models for testing nanomaterial and other therapeutic interventions.
  • Utilize in vivo optical imaging systems for real time monitoring of biological processes.
  • Work with microfluidic systems (desirable but not must) as well as developing novel platforms to evaluate nanomaterials and drug behavious in complex biological systems.
  • Supervise Phd and Masters students, providing guidance and mentorship.
  • Contribute to the preparation and submission of research manuscripts for peer reviewed journal and dissemination of results in national and international conferences.
  • Assist in the preparation of funding applications.

Profile

  • PhD in Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, or related fields.
  • Extensive experience working with cell culture and animal models.
  • Ideally, experience working with 3D ex vivo models.
  • Desirable experience working with mathematical modeling.
  • A strong record of publications in peer reviewed journals and contribution to funding applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English.

Offer

Desirable Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of mathematical models.

What We Offer:

  • An opportunity to work with leading experiments in the field of alternative translational models, nanomedicine, and 3D models.
  • Access to state of the art facilities and resources.
  • A dynamic and collaborative work environment.
  • Professional development opportunities and mentorship.
