Job description

Professor Tuuli Lappalainen's research group is looking for a researcher for a research projects that link regulatory variation to molecular, cellular and organismal phenotypes using a systems genetics approach. This fully computational position focuses on integration of human genetics with molecular phenotypes. In addition to work on research projects and collaborations, the role includes coordination of the lab’s resources and activities, participation in funding applications, as well as opportunities for mentorship of students.

The research group works at the international forefront of human functional genomics, aiming to understand how genomic variation contributes to diversity of human traits and diseases. We use both computational and experimental approaches across the disciplines of human genetics, functional genomics and molecular biology.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree 
  • Several years of postdoctoral research experience
  • Research expertise in functional genomics and human genetics, with a particular focus on interpretation of regulatory effects of genetic variants
  • High degree of expertise and independence in analyzing large-scale genomic data
  • Experience of developing and leading activities and staff, including high degree of independence in collaborative projects locally and internationally
  • A track record in mentoring student projects
  • Collaborative abilities

  • Strong publication record
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Preferred qualifications

  • Teaching ability
  • The ability to work towards research results being utilised in practice.
  • The ability to inform about research and development work 
  • Knowledge of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality
