The position is based within the Interior Architecture specialisation at the Department of Design, Interior Architecture and Visual Communication (DIV). At DIV education and research are conducted within design, interior architecture and visual communication. The department offers education at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. At the department, artistic practice is integrated with critical and societally oriented knowledge development. DIV’s research environment is under development, and as a professor you are expected to actively lead this development for the Interior Architecture specialisation.
Within the subject area of Interior Architecture and Furniture Design, a three-year Bachelor’s programme (180 credits) and a two-year Master’s programme in Spatial Design (120 credits) are offered. Creative and spatial experiments and investigations are combined with furniture design and the development of prototypes. The programme is vocationally oriented, with theoretical and practical studies taking place in drawing rooms, studios and workshops. Students’ artistic development is interwoven with technical, ecological, ethical, as well as societal and market-oriented knowledge.
Main work duties
The duties include:
- Overall responsibility for the artistic and educational leadership within the department as well as the development of the subject area.
- Actively participating in teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels
- Conducting research within the subject area
- Leading, developing and expanding the research environment
- Initiating grant applications and seeking external funding nationally and internationally
- Promoting national and international collaboration with academia, the profession, and societal actors.
- Participating in Konstfack’s joint activities, as well as being part of relevant working groups
The position
The position comprises 60-100 percent of full-time employment for a maximum of five years, with the possibility of renewal for a further maximum of five years. The proposed first day of employment is January-April 2027. Working hours are to be carried out at Konstfack with several sessions each working week. Remote work from abroad is not possible. In Sweden, there is a maintenance requirement for those applying for a work permit. Qualification requirements and assessment criteria
The eligibility requirements and assessment criteria for the appointment of teaching staff can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Konstfack Appointments Procedure. Eligibility requirements are the minimum requirements that need to be met in order for a candidate to be eligible for employment. The assessment criteria are those factors that are assessed in addition to the eligibility requirements, if the eligibility requirements are met.
The eligibility requirements for this position are:
- A university degree at advanced level or higher, relevant to the role, or other professional experience assessed equivalent in relation to the position
- Documented pedagogical proficiency in higher education or in another relevant educational context
- Documented professional practice in interior architecture, spatial design and/or furniture design
- Documented experience of collaboration within or outside academia
- Experience of conducting research relevant to the subject area
- Artistic expertise
- Good command of English
The assessment criteria for this position are:
- Established professional and/or research experience in interior architecture, spatial design and/or furniture design
- Solid experience of leading collaborative development work and strong communication skills
- Strong ability to initiate, lead and develop research projects and research environments, as well as to attract external funding
- Expertise in interior architecture, spatial design and/or furniture design
- Good pedagogical proficiency
- Good ability to integrate critical perspectives, including those relating to sustainability and transition, into research and teaching
- Good knowledge of current research in the field of interior architecture, spatial design and/or furniture design
- Doctoral degree within a relevant subject area
- Active in national and/or international networks relevant to the subject area
- Good organisational and administrative skills
- Good language skills in Swedish or another Scandinavian language.
Training in higher education teaching and learning in higher education
For employment as a professor, senior lecturer or lecturer (with a period of employment longer than two years), the employee must have completed training in higher education teaching and learning in higher education at Konstfack or another university or have acquired corresponding knowledge in another way. An applicant who is otherwise deemed eligible but has not completed training in teaching and learning in higher education is to start the training (equivalent to 7.5 credits) in order to acquire the missing qualification within one year from the start of the appointment.

We will request four references from applicants who, at a later stage, are invited to a trial lecture and interview. Of the four references, two are to be from students/doctoral students: one with experience of you in a teaching role and one for whom you have been the supervisor. The teaching/supervision is to have been carried out within the last five years. Two references are to be from people who know you in your professional role: one who has been your immediate manager/employer and one with whom you have worked closely in your work.
The trial lectures and interviews are scheduled to be conducted on 1-2 December 2026.
