Senior Lecturer of Epidemiology

We are looking for a Senior lecturer who wants to lead and develop education within epidemiology for students at undergraduate and graduate levels with great interest and commitment. Description of the subject area

The Department of Medicine Solna (MedS) has a well-established and strong educational and research profile in clinical epidemiology at a high international level. The education at the department, at undergraduate and graduate levels, spans broad fields and methods within epidemiology. The subject of epidemiology and the closely related field of medical biostatistics is a strong research field under rapid development. The Division of Clinical Epidemiology at MedS includes research and educational activities within this area. You will be based at the Division of Clinical Epidemiology, MedS.

Your mission

As Senior Lecturer, your role will be to strengthen the implementation and development of epidemiology in undergraduate and graduate/doctoral education, and we are looking for a teacher at a lecture level who has a solid background in the subject of epidemiology at different levels and as an independent researcher.

This position concerns a role as course director and examiner within the research school of epidemiology for clinicians at the division of clinical epidemiology. You are also expected to contribute as course leader and lecturer at the undergraduate education Master's programme in Public Health Sciences at KI. The position also includes research related to clinical epidemiology, with a focus on one of the profile areas of the division, e.g., chronic diseases, pharmacoepidemiology, and contribution to the development of research and education at the division.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on education and research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical skills and very good scientific skills

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

Assessment criteria

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (2), pedagogical skills (3), leadership and collaboration skills (1). 

For employment as Senior Lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure are applied in relation to established profile of employment.

It is meritorious that you have demonstrated

• Responsibility for course elements in epidemiology in research education

• Responsibility for course elements in epidemiology at the Master's Programme of Public Health Sciences

• Research experience in clinical epidemiology such as e.g., in the area of chronic diseases, studies of treatment efficacy and safety, studies of biomarkers with relation to clinical information and other data.

• Since part of the teaching will be conducted in Swedish, demonstrated proficiency in Swedish or another Scandinavian language (Norwegian or Danish) is considered meritorious.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
