 We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join our cutting-edge Flow Cytometry Core Facility at the Department of Medicine Huddinge (MedH), Karolinska Institutet as a Flow Cytometry Infrastructure Specialist. The core facility is located in the NEO research building on the Flemingsberg Campus, integrated into the Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine, and represent a critical infrastructure for supporting translational research at Karolinska Institutet. We offer high quality service and state-of-the-art instrumentation to investigators at Karolinska Institutet, as well as from external academic or commercial sites. We invite applications for a full-time position with an initial fixed term of 6 months and possibility for further extension. During this time the Core Facility will be integrated into the newly established Research Infrastructure department (RIKI), containing all core facilities at Karolinska Institutet, dedicated to support all core facility team members.

Your mission

The Flow Cytometry Facility is led by Assistant Professor Petter S. Woll (http://ki.se/en/medh/petter-woll-group) who is the Scientific Director and oversees the operation of the facility. The Flow Cytometry Facility also has an excellent Facility Manager with a long-standing experience in advanced flow cytometry.

The post holder will support the Flow Cytometry Facility in providing assisted flow cytometry analysis and cell sorting, perform day-to-day general laboratory routines, assist users with technical questions and troubleshooting, as well as provide administrative lab support such as consumables and reagents restocking and ordering. The role involves regular interaction with users in a service-oriented and professional manner. In addition, the Flow Cytometry Core Facility arrange an annual doctoral student course in Advanced Flow Cytometry Experimental Design and Analysis, where the staff participate with giving lectures and grading assignments. This position therefore offers an exciting opportunity for an individual to work within a dynamic team involving other staff and users of the Flow Cytometry Facility, as well as doctoral students, and to develop a career in cytometry.

Eligibility requirements

For employment as Research Infrastructure Specialist at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements stated in the Guidelines for non-teaching positions at Karolinska Institutet are applied in relation to the established profile of employment.

To be eligible for an employment as Research Infrastructure Specialist the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise and been awarded a PhD or a qualification from a foreign higher education institution deemed equivalent to a Swedish PhD. The applicant must also have demonstrated technological and methodological expertise.

Assessment criteria

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  •   Ph.D. within immunology, hematology, cell biology or molecular biology/life sciences.
  • Established experience in multi-color flow cytometry (>10 paramters) and in particular independent cell sorting performed on advanced instruments (e.g. BD FACS ARIA Fusion).
  • Proven ability to work independently and to prioritize tasks based on experience, operational needs and user demands.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • Strong service orientation and ability to interact professionally with users in a research environment.   

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

  •   Previous experinece with spectral flow cytometry and/or image analysis.
  • Previous experience with biosafety.
  • Previous experience with giving presentation or holding lectures related to flow cytometry.

KI applies individual and differentiated salary setting in accordance with our collective agreements RALS and RALS-T. The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.

For permanent employment, Karolinska Institutet applies a six-month probationary period.
