YOUR TASKS

  • At least 50% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in the domain of organic synthesis via high throughput experimentation and automation for industrial relevant reactions. You will prepare a doctoral dissertation on this theme.
  • You will assist in the teaching activities at the department, more specifically in organic chemistry
  • You will assist in the internal and external services of the department

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a degree of Master of Science in Bioscience Engineering: Chemistry and Bioprocess Technology, Master of Science in Engineering : Chemical Technology,  Master of Sciences : Chemistry, Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a similar Master degree that is considered relevant by the selection committee. Students who acquire their degree of Master in the second exam session of the academic year 2024-2025 (i.e., in July 2025 the latest) are also eligible to apply.
  • The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment
  • For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted
  • You have a very good knowledge of organic chemistry
  • You are familiar with organic synthesis in practice
  • Knowledge of high throughput experimentation or continuous flow chemistry is recommended
  • You are interested in academic and/or project-based research and services
  • You are motivated to take up teaching duties, such as supervising practicals, teaching exercise classes and supervising master's thesis research
  • Any teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. is considered an asset
  • You have didactic, communicative and organizational skills / excellent teaching and communication skills and are willing to further improve these skills in function of the research and educational tasks
  • A very good knowledge of Dutch is essential to be able to assist in the teaching activities in the (Dutch-taught) Bachelor’s programmes
  • You are also proficient in English

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a two-year appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. Attention: If you have been previously appointed as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow at a university within the Flemish Community, this appointment will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is six years at the most according to the Codex of Higher Education
  • Your appointment will start on 1 September 2025 at the earliest
