YOUR TASKS

 The Marine Training Unit (www.marinetraining.eu) is a core service of the European Marine Biological Resource Centre (EMBRC) Research Infrastructure, hosted by the EMBRC BE, and coordinated by Ghent University (UGent).

The vision of the Marine training Unit is to:

  • make information on training and internship opportunities on ocean and marine related topics easier to find
  • support the delivery of training and lifelong learning opportunities in ocean and marine sciences related topics (with special attention to innovation in ocean and marine training and education, specifically by enabling the use of digital tools to make access to training easier and more widely available).

In the context of several EU-funded Projects where the Marine Training Unit is a partner, the Marine Biology Research Group of Ghent University is searching for a scientific staff member.

Within the MarineTraining team the new person will be responsible for the follow-up of activities related to the projects, mainly focusing on the following:

  • Deliver training related tasks as in the projects Description of Action, namely: develop and facilitate the delivery of online, blended and onsite courses, workshops, webinars as well as mapping training opportunities and conducting training needs surveys and gap analysis, etc.
  • Assist with project reporting
  • Assist with MTU and EMBRC BE outreach activities, including contributing to newsletters and ensuring social media presence, and supporting the organization of online and onsite events and meetings
  • Daily curation of the Marine Training Unit databases (course catalogue, internships, training providers, etc.), following internationally agreed (training and education) standards.
  • Participation in Project meetings, online and/or onsite, including flexibility to travel abroad for project meetings.

The above tasks will be done under the supervision and in close collaboration with the team members.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Good knowledge of English. Knowledge of other EU languages including Dutch is an asset.
  • You have a Master degree in sciences; background on marine science, training and pedagogy is an asset.
  • You are a team player who is able to work independently.
  • You have a strong interest in education and training.
  • You have a strong interest on the use of digital tools to facilitate training.
  • You have a basic understanding of databases and pay attention to details and data standards.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • Contract to start as soon as possible (estimated starting date 1 February 2025), with a 6 months’ probation period, to be potentially renewed (pending on funding opportunities and positive evaluation); possibility of working part-time can be considered. Place of work: UGent, Campus Sterre. Limited telework is possible.
  • We offer you a contract of definite duration a the period of 6 months
  •  Your contract will start on 1/02/2025 at the earliest.
