The European Synchrotron, the ESRF, is an international research centre based in Grenoble, France.

Through its innovative engineering, pioneering scientific vision and a strong commitment from its 700 staff members, the ESRF is recognised as one of the top research facilities worldwide. Its particle accelerator produces intense X-ray beams that are used by thousands of scientists each year for experiments in diverse fields such as biology, medicine, environmental sciences, cultural heritage, materials science, and physics.

Supported by 21 countries, the ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity.

The ESRF beamline ID26 specializes in X-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy. Our team focuses on developing advanced X-ray spectroscopy techniques and investigating the electronic structure and local coordination in systems relevant to applied sciences, including materials science, coordination (bio)chemistry, (bio)catalysis, mineralogy, and earth sciences. Equipped with unique instrumentation, the beamline offers cutting-edge research opportunities. For more details about the instrument, visit http://www.esrf.fr/id26.

We actively collaborate with theory groups developing computational tools for electronic structure analysis in X-ray spectroscopies. You will be supported and encouraged to pursue independent research that exploits the beamline's exceptional capabilities, focusing on element-specific studies of electronic structure. The precise direction of your research will be determined in consultation with your supervisor, considering your interests and experience. Additionally, you will initiate and engage in collaborative research with universities and research institutions.

- Educational Background: A Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, or a related field.

- Experience: Prior research experience focused on electronic structure is essential.

- Technical Skills: Strong expertise in instrumentation, such as X-rays, in-situ cells, or spectroscopy, is highly desirable.

- Language Skills: Proficiency in English, the working language at the ESRF, is mandatory.

- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills and a willingness to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
