Do you want to contribute to groundbreaking research in molecular biology and nanomaterial-based biosensing? This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral position at the Division of Molecular Bioscience, focused on innovative research in glycan sensing, nanomaterials, and therapeutic delivery systems.

About us

The Department of Life Sciences conducts research, innovation, and education to enable a biobased society and improve human health. We explore how biological systems, and innovative technologies can be used to convert biomass into valuable products. We use advanced computational technologies to discover how biomolecules and organisms function and interact. We pioneer new methods for prediction, prevention, diagnostics and treatment of diseases.

About the research project

The project focuses on the development of advanced chemical sensing platforms and nanomaterial-based systems for biological applications, with particular emphasis on chemical sensor arrays for detecting glycans and other relevant molecules. The research combines organic chemistry, materials science, and chemical biology, with applications in diagnostics and therapeutic technologies.

 Who we are looking for

The following requirements are mandatory:

  • A doctoral degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Biology, or a related field, or an equivalent foreign degree. This requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Documented experience in one or more of the following:
    • Organic synthesis
    • Nanomaterials or polymeric systems
    • Biosensing or fluorescent probes
    • Experience with analytical techniques such as spectroscopy, chromatography, and/or microscopy
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

The following experience will strengthen your application:

  • It is highly meritorious if the doctoral degree has been obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • Experience with chemical sensor arrays or glycan-related research
  • Experience in drug delivery systems or biomedical materials
  • Experience in interdisciplinary projects at the interface of chemistry and biology

What you will do

  • Design and synthesize organic molecules and hybrid nanomaterials
  • Develop and characterize biosensing platforms and nanoparticle systems
  • Perform advanced experimental and analytical work
  • Analyze and interpret scientific data
  • Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals
  • Supervise master’s and/or PhD students to some extent
  • Contribute to teaching activities at undergraduate or master’s level

The position is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.
