About the position

A fixed-term 100 % position is available at the University of Agder, Faculty of Faculty of Engineering and Science as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in machine learning, affiliated to the Department of ICT, for a period of three years. The position is located, at the present, at Campus Grimstad. The starting date is negotiable with the Faculty.

About the project

The position is connected to the NRC project “SecureIoTM” Ultra-low-energy IoT Intrusion Detection Systems using Logic-based Tsetlin Machines" and the Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research. The objective of SecureIoTM is to unify the Tsetlin Machine, Intrusion Detection Systems, and Internet of Things to create the first ultra-low-energy detection mechanism for combating the increasing growth of IoT cybercrime. The project will develop novel algorithms and hardware designs to enable real-time anomaly detection and learning on resourceconstrained IoT devices.

Responsibilities

The fellow will get the opportunity to develop novel Tsetlin machine-based approaches for intrusion detection in IoT systems, working with multimodal data. Research topics for the Post-doctoral Research Fellow include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Resource-constrained continual learning mechanisms for Tsetlin Machines
  • Adaptive training mechanisms for Tsetlin Machine-based intrusion detection systems in hardware
  • Cyber-resilient training and covert communication schemes for IoT security
  • Prototyping and evaluating Tsetlin Machine-based intrusion detection systems on real IoT/IoMT devices

Required qualifications

  • The successful applicant should hold a PhD in a related field (e.g. machine learning, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, computer science). To be considered for the position, the applicant must have defended their PhD thesis by the closing date of the announcement.
  • Good written and spoken English proficiency.

Desired qualifications

The ideal candidate will have expertise in the following areas:

  • Machine learning, preferably with experience in Tsetlin Machines
  • IoT security and intrusion detection systems
  • Ultra-low-power computing
  • Programming in Python, CUDA, and/or C/C+

  • Personal suitability, 
  • Good teamwork skills, 
  • Inventiveness, and a proactive approach, will be emphasized in the evaluation as well as relevant practical experience. 
  • The Post-doctoral Research Fellow will be expected to contribute to an active research community that promotes the personal and professional growth of the doctoral candidate. The position places great demands on the applicantʼs capacity for independent goal-oriented work, ability to concentrate and attention to detail.

The position is remunerated according to the State Salary Scale, salary plan 17.510, code 1352, NOK 600 000 – 650 000 gross salary per year. Higher salary grades may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
