UCLouvain is in the top 1% of universities worldwide. Founded in the heart of Europe in 1425, the university brings together 40,000 students and 6,000 staff members on 9 campuses in Brussels and Wallonia. Research and education activities are organised in 20 faculties, 23 research institutes, 5 learning centres and 18 libraries. UCLouvain also has two university hospitals.
UCLouvain is a major player in the transition to a sustainable society. The challenges of the ecological crisis are integrated into courses and the university develops numerous local projects (such as a university farm and sustainable campuses). As a digital university, UCLouvain is involved in open science and education, and trains academics in innovative teaching practices through its Louvain Learning Lab. Thanks to two science parks, the university’s research benefits from interaction with 250 companies and 3 incubators, which is fuelled further by being at the centre of a region driven by technological innovation.
UCLouvain has a long tradition of international collaborations for teaching and research through partnerships across the world. As a member of the Circle U. European University alliance, the university offers a unique opportunity to work in an environment of interconnected campuses across Europe (London, Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Pisa, Belgrade, Aarhus and Oslo).
The University's staff policy is based on five pairs of values which are fundamental pillars of the way the University operates, works and lives together: https://uclouvain.be/fr/emploi/politique-personnel.html

The position to be filled will be in the ISBA pole (Institute of Statistics, Biostatistics and Actuarial Sciences), internationally recognized research center.
Within the Faculty of Sciences, the position to be filled will be located at the LSBA (Louvain School of Statistics, Biostatistics and Actuarial Sciences) which is in charge of the Masters in Statistics, general orientation and biostatistics orientation, the Masters in Data Science, statistics orientation and the Masters in Actuarial Sciences as well as of many statistics courses in other programs (bachelor and master level) of UCLouvain.
The ISBA and LSBA work closely together to provide a varied and stimulating teaching context and an ambitious research environment around methodological research projects, applied research projects and consultancy projects.
Within the Faculty of Science (SC) and the Louvain Institute of Data Analysis and Modeling in economics and statistics (LIDAM), Science and Technology Sector, this position will include the following teaching, research and community service duties:
You will teach mainly in the field of statistical learning, Bayesian statistics, and data science. Your teaching will be mainly in Masters in Data Science and in Statistics but you also will provide foundational statistics course for undergraduate students within the Faculty of Sciences, and potentially beyond, in other faculties within or outside the science and technology sector.
You will work with your LSBA colleagues to implement didactic innovation in your courses.
You will supervise master theses for students, based on your expertise.
You will develop your research activities, including the management of research programs, in the area of Statistical and Bayesian learning. You should also possess the skills to deploy these methods in various domains of application with a high societal impact.
You will particularly emphasize mathematical and statistical analysis of machine learning methods, applied to data analysis or prediction, via the Bayesian prism. Your expertise should complement the existing knowledge in inferential statistics and mathematical statistics at ISBA. Your research activities should lead to collaborations within the LIDAM institute, with other UCLouvain institutes close to these domains, with the SMCS (Statistical Methodology and Computing Service) technological platform, and with other academic or non-academic partners.
You will publish high-level research articles in journals in the field of statistics, machine learning, and/or specific to the application domain. You will disseminate research results and scientific knowledge to both expert and non-expert audiences. You will strengthen the organization of the research team, by for example taking on responsibility and leadership, and you will supervise doctoral theses.
