The Angelicum (Faculty of Theology) invites applications from established professors, with a record of publication, in the field of New Testament biblical theology. The position is open to Christian scholars sympathetic to the Catholic intellectual tradition.

Although pontifical universities don’t work on an American tenure system, this position would offer a close equivalent with a permanent contract for up to 8 years with the possibility of indefinite renewal.

The position will involve a moderate teaching load, as well as the supervision of doctoral theses and participation in the Project’s common research initiatives and conferences. Applicants should be able to teach in either English or Italian (knowledge of both, and of other languages, is a plus but not a requirement). Standing in the pontifical university system and pontifical degrees are a plus but not required.

Specialization in one of the following areas is a plus: Historical Jesus, Christology, Pauline Theology, New Testament Interpretation of the Old Testament, Apocalyptic Literature. Compensation would be substantial for posts of this kind.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Project for Scripture and Patristics at the Angelicum is a new initiative that aims to bring several scholars, both ascending and established, to the University in the next years. The objective is to promote a study of sacred texts and the early church fathers that is both historically informed and theologically sound, to read and interpret the sources in a larger theological framework. The Project will involve teaching in the Biblical Section of the Angelicum’s Faculty of Theology, as well as personal research, common research projects, conferences and more.

QUALIFICATIONS

The position is open to established professors, with experience in teaching. Candidates should have credentials for appointment at the Full Professor level, including a terminal degree and a corresponding record of success in research.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Applications must include the applicant’s full, up-to-date CV (including full list of publications), a cover letter, and contact information for two references. Other information, such as course evaluations, sample syllabi, sample work or other evidence of teaching or research excellence can be submitted but are not required.

The applications should be submitted through Interfolio no later than 30 June 2023: http://apply.interfolio.com/124228.

Any questions regarding the position or the application should be submitted to Alessandro Borghese (Special Projects Manager and Consultant to the Rector) at projects@pust.it.
