Research Project: The Electronic Nose Biosensors research group under the supervision of Prof. Shlomo Yitzchaik (Website: Prof. Shlomo Yitzchaik’s Lab), invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellow to work on innovative projects in biosensor technology. The selected candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research in the following areas:

  • Smart Electronic Olfaction for Body Odor Diagnostics
  • Electrochemical biosensors based on peptide-kinase interactions at the kinase docking site for lung cancer diagnostics
  • Kinase sensing based on protein interactions at the catalytic site for cancer biosensors
  • Glycated monolayers as heavy-metals binders for environmental sensors
  • Metal-ion mediated protein binding for neurological biomarkers, specifically Parkinson's disease
  • Integration of conducting polymers in biosensors for bioelectronics
  • Biosensors for selective bacterial detection in food and medical applications

Funding: 9,000 NIS per month.

Capacity: Full time

Duration: 2 years

Your Profile:

Knowledge

  • Possess advanced knowledge of electrochemical techniques
  • Familiar with the latest progress in surface characterizations 
  • Surface chemistry including synthesis of complexed and mixed monolayers

Experience

  • Experienced in wet laboratory techniques, particularly in the self-assembly of monomolecular layers 
  • Experienced in conducting and interpreting, electrochemical studies including but not limited to CV, EIS, and SWV experiments.
  • Experienced in conducting quantitative surface characterization using state-of-the-art techniques including, but not limited to, spectroscopic ellipsometry, CPD, XPS, wettability, and IRRAS.

Skills

  • Highly adept in electrochemical and surface science techniques.
  • Excellent laboratory management, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with biological samples.

Competencies

  • Strong motivation for paper publication
  • Highly innovative and forward-thinking
  • Able to work independently and within teams
  • Dedicated and able to meet deadlines

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. Bioengineering/Materials Science/Chemistry

The Biosensor Innovation Group, led by Professor Shlomo Yitzchaik, has world-leading expertise in multiple research areas, such as material science, surface chemistry, and biosensors for small molecules, enzymes, neurons, bacteria, and viruses. 

About Our Department: 

The Institute of Chemistry have 34 faculty members, and about additional 20 active emeriti professors, performing research in a variety of fields of chemistry. The institute is a vibrant education and research center, that offers B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry, comprising more than 250 undergraduates, about 200 research students and 100 PostDoc researchers from all over the world.

The Institute equip our graduates with advanced scientific and technological skills sets, and it has evolved into a center of excellence in various areas of chemistry, with emphasis on multidisciplinary research programs. We have a vibrant environment for teaching and research, with very good infrastructure and state-of-the-art instrumentation. In addition to the excellent research that results in publications in top journals, many industrial activities evolved, including developing new products and processes, and establishing start-up companies
