We are searching for a researcher to the Business Finland funded AI-SIM project, which examines the use of artificial intelligence particularly in procurement and supply chain management. The work will start on October 1, 2024 (or as separately agreed) and is fixed-term until the completion of the project on June 30, 2026.

Job Description 

The researcher will work in the AI-SIM project, which investigates and develops the utilization of artificial intelligence in procurement, supplier relationships, and business networks. The project focuses on identifying potential use cases for NLP-AI that leverages qualitative data. Collaboration with both companies and international research partners is essential in the research work. The project is implemented in cooperation with a business network, which includes three companies: Agco Power, Sievo, and Integrata. Additionally, several other companies are involved in the project network.

The researcher will participate in the execution of the work packages outlined in the project plan: AI business models and intelligent solutions for supplier information management, AI-supported supplier performance management, linguistic AI methods in supply chains and business transformation, as well as the use of AI tools, value creation, and new business opportunities. The content of the research work can be specified according to the applicant's interests and expertise. For example, the work can take a user-centered perspective to the design of AI solutions or the perspective of AI in business models and processes. The researcher will also engage in project tasks such as communication with project partners, dissemination of results, and organizing various project events. The position offers the possibility to carry out doctoral studies. Upon separate agreement, the position may also include tasks related to teaching in the field of industrial engineering and management.

Requirements

Candidates are expected to have an interest in the themes of industrial engineering and management, such as procurement and supply chain management, customer and supplier relationship management, or leveraging digitalization in business models. The research may also be related to sustainability in supply chains. 

Success in the position requires the following skills and experience:

  • A suitable master's degree, for example, in industrial engineering and management, information and knowledge management, or business studies. Candidates from other engineering disciplines may also apply if they possess adequate business understanding through their education or work experience.
  • Sufficient oral and written language skills. Proficiency in English is essential, and proficiency in Finnish is considered as an advantage.
  • Ability to work in a team as well as initiative and proactivity.

The following are considered advantages in the role:

  • Interest in pursuing doctoral studies
  • Interest in teaching responsibilities
  • Experience in typical qualitative or quantitative research methodologies in industrial engineering and management
  • Relevant practical work experience
  • Previous experience in AI or digital technology-related research or development

We Offer

The position will be located at OSCG research group within the industrial engineering and management unit. The group and the unit provide a multidisciplinary community that is connected both nationally and internationally. The project is carried out through the collaboration between the OSCG and CMC groups. The position offers support from experienced researchers participating in the project.

The position will start on October 1, 2024 (or by agreement) and is a fixed-term role until the project ends on June 30, 2026. A 6-month probation period will apply. The salary for the researcher will be determined according to the salary system for teaching and research staff in universities. The starting salary for a researcher is typically around €2600-2700 per month.
