YOUR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for an experienced research unit head who will serve as leader and promoter of the highest quality, industry-relevant research in the fields of miniaturization of machine learning and signal processing algorithms and associated electronic sensor solutions. 

YOUR LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Management and further development of the research unit Embedded Artificial Intelligence in the division Intelligent Wireless Systems with currently 16 scientists with the focus on machine learning, signal processing and neural network VLSI accelerators for a wide range of fields and applications.
  • Vision for long-term research opportunities in electronic systems and miniaturization of machine learning and signal processing algorithms via IC design/FPGA implementations.
  • Shaping the division research program and project portfolio together with supervisors and peers.
  • Engage with the diverse team of experts to find optimal solutions.
  • Research unit budget and resource planning and controlling.
  • Overall, guiding the research unit towards generation of high-quality research findings, scientific excellence, and economic impact.

YOUR SCIENTIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Close cooperation and support of scientific and industrial project partners in cooperative research projects.
  • Development of miniaturized electronic hardware systems and architectures.
  • Acquisition, set up and management of research projects together with a variety of industrial and academic partners as well as proposals for national and international grant fundings.
  • Supervision of BSc, MSc, and PhD students.
  • Publish and present the unit research results in scientific journals, international conferences, international summits, scientific boards and relevant events.

YOUR PROFILE

  • PhD degree and postdoctoral lecture qualification in electrical engineering, micro-electronics, applied physics or related fields with a specialization in digital IC design for Machine Learning or Signal Processing applications.
  • At least 10 years of practical experience in one or more of the mentioned fields.
  • Proven track record of at least 5 years team leading experience in industry or research.
  • Leadership qualities, the ability to inspire, promote and motivate young scientists and researchers to achieve their best performance.
  • Scientific track record as evidenced by publications, invited lectures, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of the worldwide market and the European industrial ecosystem and funding landscape.
  • Active industrial and academic network.
  • Well organized and enjoy working in a dynamic and multi-cultural team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. German is a plus.

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA) in occupational group G (G1 salary = EUR 4.927, paid 14 times a year). Your actual salary depends on your experience and qualifications. We offer a salary in the range between EUR 85.000 to EUR 120.000 (annual, based on an All-in contract and bonus).
