Requirements: Master Degree in at least one of the following subjects: Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Informatics, Computer Science, Mathematics. Excellent English, written and spoken.
The research activities defined by the LASER OPTIMAL project (ERC Starting Grant GA n. 759159) focus on the development of a numerical model for the optimization of minimally invasive thermal procedure in biomedical field. The theoretical model should drive the planning of the clinical procedure, based on the simulation of the temporal evolution of the temperature distribution within the target tissue. The system should account for the influence of the soft tissue properties, the presence of blood vessels and the anatomy of the human body. Numerical optimization, C++ and phyton will be used to develop the research project activities.
The research program will be carried out through numerical and experimental activities, aimed to achieve the desired outcomes. The timing will be established in agreement with the Principal Investigator of the study.
The activity will be carried out according to the following phases: analysis of the literature; development of a numerical model to simulate the temperature distribution in biological tissues undergoing thermal treatment, estimation of the tissue mechanical and thermal properties from measured data. Travels to the project partner, INRIA, in Strasbourg (France), are scheduled.
