 About MSN department

The Materials Science, Energy, and nano-engineering (MSN) is a department at Mohammed VI University that aims to makes use of innovative research and education in order to promote solution development and entrepreneurship (in the context of Moroccan and African challenges), while training the next generation top scientists, innovators and entrepreneurs.

Research at MSN is organized in 4 research tribes: Energy storage, Surface technology, Polymers and composites, and sustainable materials. With some 50 researchers and  PhD students  and  several  national  and  international  partners,  MSN  is  emerging  as  a  strong  actor  in  the  Moroccan  materials research scene. The department coordinates Master of science program in Materials science and engineering as well as several executive master programs.

 Description of the position

This Professor position is in materials, corrosion, and their related topics. The position is intended for a confirmed professor (M/F), with at least 5 years research experience after a PhD in materials, electrochemistry, and Corrosion Science. He/she is keen on multidisciplinary work at the interface of basic research and the industrial world with confirmed experience in leading collaborative projects and supervising undergraduate students and PhDs. The Candidate must have a teaching experience of graduate courses in corrosion or related subject and have experience in the synthesis and characterisation of materials for Corrosion Science.

Position Responsibilities and expertise:

The successful candidate must demonstrate potential to effectively develop, lead and maintain research programs. The candidate must have a strong commitment to excellence as he/she will be responsible for enhancing the quality of the research programs related to materials and corrosion engineering at MSN department.

Main tasks include fundamental & practical research and solving industrial corrosion and materials challenges, in addition exploring the environmental and design boundaries of conventional technologies, combining the academic and industry experience to find pragmatic solutions. The research interests of the candidate should be focused on:

  • Investigate the structure processing property performance relationships, corrosion initiation and propagation mechanisms, and high temperature oxidation.
  • Alloy steels and corrosion resistant alloys, localized corrosion of metals and alloys, and corrosion management.
  • Developing new alloys, corrosion monitoring techniques, and prediction of corrosion damage.
  • Microfluidics and Corrosion Simulation
  • Thin film flow
  • Process Scale-up
  • Nanoporous Anodic Alumina
  • Simulation Galvanic Corrosion
  • Moving boundary problems
  • Set up national, African and internationals networks in the fields of materials and corrosion science.
  • Development of advanced in-situ and operando characterisations for corrosion
  • Development of electrochemical cells for in-situ and operando characterisation at the laboratory scale and at large scale facilities
  • Development of materials with high resistance corrosion for phosphate industry.
  • Ensuring knowledge translation through high-impact publications and intellectual property;
  • Management and coordination of industrial projects in relation to materials and corrosion science.

In addition, the candidate must be able to:

  • Design and teach Advanced Master of Science Modules, including physics and physical chemistry in electrochemistry, corrosion, and others, electrochemical corrosion, industrial electrolytic processes, electrochemical properties of materials.
  • Supervising and co-supervising PhD and Master theses
  • Collaborating with local and international universities and institutions for research development.

 Selection criteria:

  • PhD in chemistry materials and electrochemistry, with a strong expertise and experience in electrochemistry and characterization of advanced materials for phosphate industry.
  • Strong knowledge of developing materials, and electrochemical evaluation of synthesized materials with due correlation.
  • An excellent track record in high impact peer-reviewed publications and patents, whit H-Index more than 12.
  • Experience in fundraising from government and international agencies and/or industry.
  • Good leadership and project management skills with ability to foster teamwork.
  • Experience with managerial, technical, analytical, evaluative and follow-through skills, preferably in a research arm of a higher education institution or government laboratory.
  • Experience in supervising undergraduate students, graduate students, PhDs students and/or Post-Doctoral fellows.
  • Ability to forge collaborative relationships with peers and to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders at various organizational levels.
  • Teaching experience in higher education with the capacity to develop new courses, mentor/organize teaching programs and connect research to teaching.
