The School of Digital Arts is a purpose built, interdisciplinary school at one of the UK's leading universities. Offering industry and research informed courses and specialist spaces with the latest technologies, SODA is a £35M investment into the workspaces, networks, teaching and research that will drive the next generation of creative content. Our students study disciplines that span film, animation, UX, photography, games design, games art and more, often working on live projects with industry partners and frequently collaborating with fellow students and researchers. They choose from a flexible mix of courses: foundation year, undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees that run alongside degree apprenticeships, summer schools and short courses.

Opened in September 2021, we work closely with a diverse range of cultural and industry partners, for example Quay Street Productions, Black Magic Design, BBC, ITV and HOME, and are ideally placed in a creative global city that has transformed to be a leading powerhouse of the UK's digital economy. Industry connectivity and inclusion within the School is critical. 

Lecturer  (Collaborative Practice, Entrepreneurship and Employability)

We are looking to appoint a Lecturer in Co-Labs. The ideal candidate should have experience of a creative approach to designing and delivering higher education curriculum at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels in subject specific and interdisciplinary contexts. This role requires a versatile approach and ability to deliver across different levels and (potentially) programmes and contribute to a vibrant and collaborative team that spans a wide range of digital arts disciplines, encompassing both academic and industry professionals.

Co-Labs is an innovative unit which provides the space where SODA research themes, Body, Machine, Society and Storytelling, are introduced to and explored by students. The unit initiates interdisciplinary thinking and collaborating with others.

The successful applicant will have strong organisational/project management skills and experience, preferably within a creative arts setting and undertake the following:  

• Lead co-creation of Co-Lab curriculum design and content, working across SODA disciplines with Co-Lab Theme Leads, Education Lead and Programme Leads and delivery teams through workshops, networking, prototyping and other engagement activities. 
• Liaise with Timetabling, Technical Services and other Professional Services colleagues as needed.
• Act as the Co-Labs first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead on Co-Lab exhibitions, liaising with students, staff and Gallery/Technical teams as needed.
• Keep up to date with appropriate internal and external funding that may enable the Co-Lab and programme teams to further research and develop curriculum innovation.
• Develop new/maintain existing relationships with industry partners who collaborate with SODA on Co-Labs for our UG/PG students and staff.
• Lead on Employability for the School, coordinating initiatives with programme teams and across the School.
• Lead on Entrepreneurship for the School, supporting programme teams in embedding skills into the curriculum.

The applicant should also have an in-depth understanding of current industry/practitioner trends within digital arts and be able to conduct research/knowledge exchange and deliver programmes that are grounded in the present but offer space to explore the future – leading students to investigate what it means to be a creative media practitioner at the convergence of storytelling, technology, and innovation.
