The Leibniz Institute on Aging – Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) in Jena is a federal and state government-funded research institute and member of the Leibniz Association (Leibniz-Gemeinschaft). FLI’s internationally visible and highly competitive research is focused on understanding the mechanisms of aging and associated age-related diseases. Scientists from over 40 countries are currently investigating the molecular mechanisms of aging and the occurrence of age-related diseases. Our aim is to create the basis for new approaches in medicine as a way to improve the health of the elderly (www.leibniz-fli.de).

The Research Group of Dr. Maria Ermolaeva is seeking a postdoctoral researcher as scientific project coordinator for the research project “TWIN4EarLiStAge” Twinning for Excellence in Research, Training and Innovation in Early-in Life Stress and Aging) financed by the European Union.

Postdoc (m/f/x)
Scientific Project Coordinator

Job-ID: 25/02
Application by February 28, 2025

Research focus of the lab:

The Ermolaeva Research Group investigates adaptive stress responses and metabolic resilience mechanisms as putative drivers of healthy longevity. We search for pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions that promote healthy aging by boosting adaptive resilience at the cellular and organism level. Our experimental and analytical approaches include longevity screens in nematodes, microbiome screens, unbiased multi-omics analyses, cell culture, biomarker discovery, and cross-species translational studies.

Tasks and challenges:

The “TWIN4EarLiStAge” EU project aims to investigate the effects of early life stressors on the later aging and longevity of the organism. The project is carried out in collaboration with the University of Crete and European Institute for the Biology of Ageing (ERIBA) and entails scientific outreach, networking and training tasks as well as scientific coordination and experimental tasks.

  • Exploring the relationship between stress responses and metabolism in cell culture
  • Administering relevant treatments to animals, collecting samples for proteomics analysis, and analysing the resulting data
  • Facilitating interactions among consortium partners and assisting in organizing project-related visits and workshops
  • Assisting in project management

Requirements:

  • PhD in biology, biochemistry, life sciences, biomedicine, or in an equivalent discipline
  • Hands-on experience in molecular biology, cell culture and animal experiments
  • Experience with technology transfer projects
  • Prior experience with multi-partner consortia
  • FELASA qualification B and C (mouse)
  • Ability to write animal licenses and communicate with relevant authorities in Germany
  • Fluency in English and German (spoken and written language)

This will be a plus:

  • Experience and/or formal training in project management and quality management
  • Recognition as a project leader of animal experiments

We offer:

  • You will become part of a world-leading research institute dedicated to the biology of aging and have the opportunity to join a very well-equipped Lab with an international team and the focus on interventions for healthy aging
  • Access to multiple state-of-the-art facilities. Our work is embedded in the Beutenberg Campus, an interdisciplinary base for innovative research.
  • A position integrated in the FLI PostDoc Network; the Network promotes interdisciplinary collaborations involving clinician scientists, basic scientists, and bioinformaticians and supports career development and postdoctoral training courses
  • The contract conditions and the salary will be according to the collective labour agreement for public service employees of the federal states of Germany (E13 TV-L); the position is envisaged as part-time with at least 65% employment
  • Flexible working time, a family friendly working environment that provides a healthy work-life balance, company health management, including support for child care solutions, and dual career options
  • We provide support with various qualification and further training opportunities and use of the Haufe learning platform with numerous different online courses

Application:

Please apply online through the FLI application portal by February 28, 2025.

FLI is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and promotes diversity. It aims to increase the proportion of underrepresented groups in case of equal suitability. All qualified persons, regardless of race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or other classification protected by law will receive consideration for employment.
