Job description

Modern ion batteries are based on ions, mainly Li-ions, being charged up in carbon and/or SiOx-based materials that form the negative electrode. Battery properties such as energy density and aging depend on a complex way on the material structure and specifically on the environment of the ions. NMR spectroscopy can directly observe ions charged in the electrode material and the spectrum and other NMR parameters such as relaxation times inform about the atomic and electronic environment. The work in this project is focused on experimental studies of suitably prepared (charging, aging) electrode material primarily using NMR spectroscopy.
