One PhD student position in 3D-microprinting is currently available in the Liberale group at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST, Saudi Arabia).
Optical fibers are a ubiquitous core element of current and next-generation telecommunication systems, laser technologies, and biomedical devices. Yet, the capability to fabricate miniaturized structures integrated on optical fibers' end-face to realize complex optical functions compactly (like beam shaping, beam deflection, polarization control, fiber optical tweezers, etc.) is still under intense development. This defines an exciting research field with many opportunities for applications such as environmental sensing, portable and point-of-care devices, micro-endoscopy, etc.
The project aligns with this research area and aims to develop novel and complex photonic structures at the end-face of optical fibers, leveraging the unprecedented fabrication freedom, flexibility, and high resolution of 3D-microprinting, a cutting-edge fabrication method based on Two-Photon Lithography (TPL).
A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optics/Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field is required.
This Fellowship Opportunity Includes:
