as soon as possible.

The Virtual Worlds and Digital Games group explores technologies and applications in the area of Mediated Reality. This includes, but is not limited to, research and development of novel approaches to virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), mixed reality (MR), and diminished reality (DR). This includes novel methods from the areas of computer vision, computer graphics, human-machine interfaces, and distributed virtual or augmented environments, in particular also using deep learning approaches. We offer a dynamic working environment in an international team, with the commitment to be one of the leading research groups worldwide in this field. With our publications, we are consistently represented at high-level international conferences and conduct a large number of externally funded projects, both interdisciplinary and with application partners from the private sector.

Through the Institute for Intelligent and Interactive Immersive Media and Technologies (I4MT), we are closely linked to numerous groups at the university. This provides the basis for new collaborations, innovative ideas and projects in the context of larger funding formats. The Ilmenau Interactive Immersive Technologies Center (I3TC) with its infrastructure (i.e., CAVE, Virtual Studio) is available for technical realization and administrative support.

The position is part of the research project SEASONAL, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). This position is particularly aimed at candidates who wish to further qualify academically within the scope of a doctoral program. SEASONAL aims to transform outdoor images using Deep Learning between different environmental conditions (e.g., seasons, weather, and lighting). The challenges associated with this task primarily concern the ability to process multiple domains while producing plausibility, high-quality results simultaneously.

Your tasks

Your job tasks include:

• Research and development of generative deep learning models
• Evaluation and optimization of the developed models
• Generation and preparation of training data
• Planning and conducting research within the project under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, with a high degree of independence and responsibility expected
• Creating high-quality publications of national/international standing and presenting research results at relevant conferences
• Collaboration with other team members to integrate the models into existing systems.

Your profile

For being part of the selection process is needed:

• completed university degree (Master's or Diploma (Univ.)) in Computer Science, Media Informatics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
• profound knowledge in Deep Learning, especially in generative models and image processing
• excellent programming skills in Python
• experience with Deep Learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow
• experience with Linux operating systems and working in Linux environments
• experience in working with large datasets

Following competences are desirable:

• strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• excellent English language skills, both written and spoken
• ability to independently work on and present results
• strong communication and teamwork skills
• experience with optimizing Deep Learning code for GPU acceleration, especially with CUDA and C++
• knowledge of handling computing clusters and batch systems for Deep Learning computations.
• basic knowledge in the field of augmented reality
• very good spoken and written English written and basic knowledge of German
