YOUR TASKS

-    The Laboratory Bacteriology Research (LBR) is a research group within the Department of Diagnostic Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. LBR has been conducting research for more than 20 years on improving diagnostics for Group B Streptococcus (GBS), a bacterium present vaginally in 20% of women that can cause neonatal sepsis when transmitted to the fetus or newborn.
-    You are responsible for analyzing clinical samples for the presence of Group B Streptococcus (GBS) using qPCR and culture; identifying isolates with MALDI-TOF, performing drug susceptibility tests on GBS isolates, conducting whole-genome sequencing analysis of GBS strains, and carrying out FISH analysis of biofilms.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You hold a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Biotechnology. Extensive experience with qPCR (quality control, design, and validation of qPCR assays, etc.) is essential. Extensive experience with bioinformatic analysis of whole-genome sequences of bacteria is also essential. Experience with FISH for the analysis of bacterial biofilms is required. You have experience with biobanking and mentoring students. You are a team player, take initiative, and have a scientific and critical mindset.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

-    We offer you a fixed-term contract for a period of 1 year within an international and dynamic research group. 
-    Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).  Click here for more information about our salary scales.
