RF Engineer (# of positions: 2)

Deadline: 25 March 2019
Ref: GA/19/11

Company description

Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste is an international multidisciplinary research center operated as a user facility, featuring a 2.0/2.4 GeV, third-generation synchrotron light source (Elettra), a new free-electron laser light source (FERMI) and a variety of support laboratories. The extremely high quality of the machines and beamlines has set new performance records and has been producing results of great scientific and technologic interest. See http://www.elettra.eu for more information.

Beamline / Project / Activity description

The European Spallation Source (ESS) will be the most intense neutron source worldwide. The laboratory will be constructed in Lund (Sweden). It is a pan-European infrastructure aimed at catering to a community of about 5000 scientists. On August 31, 2015 the ESS project was established by the European Commission as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium, or ERIC, and is now known as European Spallation Source ERIC. The low energy neutron beams that will be made available will allow new experimental opportunities for real time, in situ, in vivo measurements, including measurements of dynamic events at the nanometric scale. From the technical point of view, the project is based on the production of neutrons by the spallation reaction of protons, produced by a linac, on a rotating tungsten target. Elettra-Sincrotrone Trieste, together with INFN and CNR, is one of the three institutions committed to the realization of the Italian contribution for the construction of ESS.

The activities will be carried out in the framework of the European Spallation Source (ESS) project, in which Elettra is involved.

Job description

He/she will oversee and support the design, developments, prototyping and construction of the RF Power Stations. He/she will be engaged in activities involving measurements, acceptance tests and validation of the single components and of the complete RF stations. The successful candidate will assist in drawing up technical reports and project documentation and in the deployment, installations and test activities onsite. Main working place is Elettra, but travels to and work at ESS, as well as at the involved suppliers premises will be required.

Qualifications

A university degree in one of the following fields is required: Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or Physics.

The following technical skills are requested:

· knowledge of electronic, electrical engineering and telecommunication principles;

· knowledge of RF measurements techniques.

The following technical skills will be considered a plus:

· familiarity with RF systems for particle accelerators;

· familiarity with high power RF technologies;

· familiarity in programming and automation systems;

The deadline for the submission of the application is March 25, 2019.
