Context & Research Area
The Department of Management of Ca’ Foscari University, awarded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research as a “department of excellence” (Dipartimento di Eccellenza), is looking for a scholar that will contribute to its scientific production related to the evolution of regional economic, industrial and entrepreneurial systems in medium-tech sectors, with a particular attention to entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystems.
The Department is organized in Research Laboratories and Centers. The scholar will be asked to contribute substantially to the research activities of the Agrifood Management & Innovation Lab (https://www.agrifoodlab.it/). The Lab focuses its research on the competitiveness of agri-food systems and firms and on innovation in the agri-food sector. The laboratory’s main lines of research are: 1. The digitalization of agri-food firms’ strategies; 2. The evolution of business models in the agri-food sector and in connected filieres; 3. Entrepreneurship and firm creation in the food and wine sectors.
The Department of Management and the Agrifood Management & Innovation Lab would benefit from the contribution of a scholar focused on the following topics applied to the Agri-food sector:
Candidates must prove to have the competencies to significantly contribute to the scientific debate on the aforementioned topics and to engage in fruitful dialogues with practitioners, experts and policy-makers. Moreover, candidates should prove to possess competencies and abilities to teach in bachelor and master’s courses in a Department currently involved in the EQUIS accreditation process. The candidate needs not to be expert in the agri-food industry, though a specific expertise on the sector will be preferential in the selection among equivalent profiles. She/he will be required to show a clear commitment to developing research on the sector through a research statement.
The Department invites applications from scholars in applied economics. The scope of the research in which the candidate will be involved, though, opens up opportunities also for scholars in fields such as Economics of innovation, Industrial economics/industrial organization, Development economics, Socio-economics, Regional economics.
The Department and Laboratory aim at producing high-quality research, targeted to the best international journals in the field, to shape teaching on the results of its research, and finally to engage policy-makers and industry experts, and as regards as the Laboratory to contribute to the development of the Italian agri-food sector.
In line with this, the selected candidate will be required to collaborate with the faculty of the Department of Management and of the laboratory to produce research aiming at the best international journals, and to teach 90 hours in the Department’s Curricula taught in English. Courses held by the selected candidate will be on basic economics at the bachelor level and on development economics/regional economics, economics of innovation and similar themes at the master level. Moreover, the selected candidate will be required to fulfill other teaching obligations (e.g., thesis supervision).
The aim of this announcement is to raise awareness on the availability of the position, encourage candidates to manifest their interest, and thus allow the Department to identify the most promising pool of competencies to tap from.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and exhibit a relevant publication record. To be eligible for the position, candidates should demonstrate that they already had a three-year position at the same level or research positions or contracts (e.g., post-doc) for at least three years, even in separate periods. To progress in his or her career, the candidate will have to comply –at the end of the three-year period– with the Department hiring and promotion guidelines.
