Ca’ Foscari is looking for a researcher in the area of Modern languages and Literatures of the Indian subcontinent, capable of inspiring students to become game-changers in their own fields and to make a genuine difference in the world.
The Assistant Professor must guarantee the coverage of courses in the BA, MA and PhD degree courses. The teaching activities will concern the modules of Hindi language, Indo-Aryan linguistics, Languages, identities and borders in South Asia.
Is required a solid foundation of synchronic and diachronic linguistics related to the Indian context and above all to the group of modern Indo-aryan languages. In particular, the candidate must demonstrate that he has a good experience in linguistic analysis of several modern dialectal languages / varieties spoken in the Subcontinent to be able to recognize and examine the interference of their linguistic contact during their diachronic evolution or in the present. In addition to the aforementioned knowledge of historical linguistics, the researcher have also to demonstrate that he knows how to approach the official languages of India history, to be able to critically evaluate the language policies and the standardization and promotion processes implemented in the countries of South Asia over the past 150 years.
The position will be hosted in the Department of Asian and North African Studies. The Department has recently received a “Department of Excellence” Award by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research. The Excellence Award has allowed the department to receive additional state funding to develop innovative projects for the creation of the Marco Polo International Research Centre (MaP) Centre for Global Europe-Asia Connections. The aim is to foster scientific cooperation at international level on innovative topics such as new religious identities, migrations, climate change and the history of relations between Europe, Asia and the Arab and Islamic world in a Transcultural perspective.
Thanks to the wide array of activities and subjects offered by the Department, students can learn and explore Asian languages and their cultural context.
The skills and scientific interests of the DSAAM faculty members cover a wide geographic area from Africa to Japan. The specific fields of interest, often cross-disciplinary, can be divided into four main areas: linguistics, philology and literature; religions and philosophy; archaeology and cultural heritage conservation, figurative arts and performances; history, institutions, economics, society, politics and international relations.
