This position will report directly to the Dean of the College of Dentistry.

Position Summary: The College of Dentistry at the American University of Iraq Baghdad (AUIB) is pleased to invite qualified applicants for a full-time faculty position in the department of Oral surgery and oral medicine.
An instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, or professor may be assigned to this open-rank position based on demonstrated experience in teaching, research, clinical care, and community service.
Candidates must have teaching experience, and those with scholarly and research interests are encouraged.
The faculty member's duties will include didactic and clinical instruction of students, scholarly activities, and service. He is also expected to participate in the faculty practice. The Dean or the Department Chair will determine the overall distribution of such activities and the allocation of responsibilities, considering student and clinic needs, among other appropriate considerations.

Areas of Accountabilities: Main Activities

  • Provide clear and engaging instructions to undergraduate and graduate students in oral surgery, oral medicine, or oral pathology courses, preclinical work, and clinical practice.
  • Utilize innovative teaching methodologies to enhance student learning outcomes and facilitate knowledge retention.
  • Contribute to developing, evaluating, and enhancing the college curriculum. Design and implement instructional materials, assessments, and learning resources that align with educational objectives and accreditation standards.
  •  Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to dental students, teaching assistants, and junior faculty members.
  • Provide a supportive learning environment conducive to skill development and ethical patient care.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across dental specialties to deliver comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in research projects and scholarly activities.
  • Demonstrate high ethical standards and professional conduct in teaching, mentoring, and interpersonal interactions.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds and cultural contexts.
  • Engage in continuing education activities, workshops, conferences, and professional organizations.
  • Teach theory and pre-clinical/clinical courses in dentistry, including serving as a course director.
  •  Apply a coherent teaching and learning strategy in the college.
  • Mentor and advise students when needed.
  •  Assist in developing and teaching the college curriculum.
  •  Assist in developing and teaching continuing education and/or graduate programs to develop the advanced skills of practicing dentists.
  •  Assist in preparing and managing the annual college budget.
  •  Contribute to and plan for a research project in the college and support scholarly activities.
  •  Utilize training and practice facilities at the college.
  •  Attend college meetings and educational events.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Graduate of an approved dental school with the highest professional dental qualification, such as a BDS, DDS, or DMD, accompanied by a Master's degree in Oral Surgery or Oral Medicine from a reputable college or university. Strong preference for a Doctor of Philosophy in Dental Sciences.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of post-secondary teaching experience in a college or university setting at a reputable college or university. 
  • Be familiar with preclinical and clinical material and safety rules.
  • Familiarity with the American System of Higher Education.
  • Evidence of research activities in oral surgery or oral medicine.
  • Must have a solid understanding of clinical practice, procedures, and scheduling in dentistry with valid  and current dental license or be eligible for licensing.
  • An American Board or certification exam is a plus.
